WLD is proud to introduce our Player Pen Pal Program, a new peer-based initiative running for this spring lacrosse season. This program, inspired by a recommendation from one of our very own members (Hi Pamela!!), is designed to strengthen community and foster meaningful connections among our lacrosse players. Jenna, our Community Leader, will lead this program.
Breaking barriers
This program is great for all levels: We plan to pair same-aged-teams together unless requested otherwise.
The Player Pen Pal Program aims to break down the barriers between teams, encourage social interaction and camaraderie, and build a supportive network among young players, both on and off the field (and coaches too!).
how it works
Team Registration: Coaches register their teams through this simple online form. (Deadline January 21!) We will all meet on our kick off call on February 1st at 11am EST.
Team/Player Pairing: Each registered team is hand-paired with another team based on your answers in our form. You and your staff decide how to match players—captains with captains, by position, or another creative approach. We will provide you with examples and suggestions on how to match your players.
Ongoing Connection: Paired players will exchange communication through chosen platform (social, email, letters, etc). Coaches can follow our suggested timeline to keep the players in motion with their connections. Jenna will also be in contact with the coaches for the duration of the season.
Tournament Interaction: Teams facilitate introductions during tournaments through pre-game meetups, sideline chats, or by cheering for each other (if applicable)!
Why Join?
This program goes beyond the field, creating a sense of belonging and mutual respect in the lacrosse community. By connecting players, the program emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and shared experiences, making tournaments or games even more rewarding.
