DRILL: Five Point Shooting

A GREAT BUILD UP DRILL FOR ANY LEVEL!

THIS DRILL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Even Numbers

  • Goalie Work

DESCRIPTION:

You can start this drill as a warm up for the goalies and turn it into a 5v5.

Set up 5 cones:  1 at each second inside hash, 1 at each side of the 8m, and 1 behind the cage (see diagram). Follow the steps:

  1. Going clockwise, have everyone take 1-2 steps and shoot 50% on the goalie.  Shots come quickly right after one another like rapid fire. Continue until the whole team has shot.  Sub in another goalie if necessary and repeat (this is the goalie warm up portion).

  2. Change up the shot pattern.  Do not go clockwise - go low to high and high to low, working on goalie footwork and movement.  Shots are now taken at 100%. Focus on goalie footwork and shooters using the correct form and hands.

  3. Now add in a 1v1.  Change the pattern again to work on different footwork and movements for the goalies.  Focus on goalie footwork, angles, hands, and defensive and offensive 1v1 skills.

  4. Now build up to a 2v2.  Since there was already a 1v1 at each cone, you can keep the pairs and call in different groups to have different looks and get to the drill coming in from different angles.  Make sure each set of pairs goes twice.

  5. Built it to a 3v3.

  6. Built it to a 4v4.

  7. Build it to a 5v5.

Keep in mind:  Depending on how many players you have, you’ll have to move people around as you go.
