DESCRIPTION:
Start with two attacking lines at the top of the 8M, with their backs turned away from the goal. To begin each play, the coach will roll out a ground ball and blow the whistle. The first two players turn and fight for the ground ball. The winner is the attacker and tries to get a fast “garbage goal” while the loser defends her.
As soon as the play is over, the next group goes. This drill is meant to be fast.
EQUIPMENT:
WHISTLE, BALLS, GOALIE AND GOAL
HIGHLIGHTED SKILLS:
GROUND BALLS INSIDE THE 8M, QUICK SHOOTING, GOOD BALL HANDLING, FAST DECISIONS AND SOLID DEFENSIVE.
KEY COACHING POINTS:
Don’t let the losers of the game give up. Coach the defense to force the attacker to take a hard, outside shot without fouling. Coach the attackers to control the ball and get off a nice, quick shot.
