Pablo is originally from McLean, VA, but has been in Baltimore, MD since 1996. Pablo played basketball at Johns Hopkins University for 4 years and then began teaching in the city school system, where he still teaches at the same school for the last 24 years- The Barclay Elementary Middle School #54. Pablo coached basketball there for about 15 years and then he and his wife started having their own kids and they began playing sports. His wife played lacrosse at UMBC!
In 2015, Pablo noticed the coach of his daughterβs rec clinic could use some help and heβs been coaching girls lacrosse ever since! He now coaches a 2029 team and a 2031 team in Lutherville, MD.
Their program is called Legends and was born out of the rec program LTRC about 5 years ago. βI taught a few of my players since they first picked up the stick and my plan is help them achieve their dreams of HS and college lacrosse.β π
There was a time Pablo thought about slipping away when his 2029 daughter made the Legends Club team in 4th grade, but two sets of coaches left the program and since he had coached most of the players in rec, soccer, or basketball, he was asked to coach. He LOVED it. β€οΈ
When it was time for the 2031 team to form, Legends had no coach. His 2nd daughter is a 2032, but is very talented and determined. He was asked to lead the group and she made the team. They pulled together a remarkable team and are already competitive in the NGLL 2031A division. π
Pablo pulled together an amazing staff of women for this team. Everything has fallen together really well. βWe are a group of 5 who all pull the same direction and want the same thing... an amazing lacrosse experience for our daughters without breaking the bank and without the cutthroat pressure that big lacrosse organizations wield.β
βWLD has come along at a perfect time for me as I'm trying to raise my coaching game. I don't have a ton of experience with the sport but for the last 3-4 years I've been looking for every opportunity to learn the strategy and the nuances. I bought a VEO camera for our teams so I can watch game tape and see what other teams do, what our players do, etc. We are made up of brilliant multi sport athletes that love to play lacrosse too. Most have not committed 100% to one sport. So we do struggle against the elite clubs. We are in such a competitive area so I'm trying to inspire my players to believe in themselves. We might not be the biggest name in the area, we might not have the most skill or talent... yet. But I tell em to stay low and stick together and we can make all of our dreams come true.β π
Coaching girls lacrosse is something Pablo has become extremely passionate about and cares deeply for. Thank you for helping grow the game and brining your passions to youth lacrosse especially!
