Circle Doubles

Circle Doubles

An easy to coach double drill that focuses on details.

This Drill Highlights:

  • Forcing

  • Approaching the Attacker Properly

  • Communication

Description:

This drill is great to break down doubles and fix the basics. Start with three lines around the center circle. Two defending lines and one attack line. Create a goal with cones at the opposite end of the circle. The coach will throw the ball to the attacker: Red A. Her objective is to run through the goal. The lines of the circle are out of bounds and the defenders-Blue X-want to double her, using the sidelines as a trap, to get the ball back. Once the defender has possession, the ball goes out of bounds, the players step out or the attacker scores, the drill is over. Make sure the coach passes the ball to the attacker AT the line. If she receives the ball in the circle she has too much of an advantage to get through the goal. The defenders are released the second she catches the ball. Variation: Don’t allow any checking in this drill.
