Crash & Approach

A crash and approach focused defensive drill.

Description of Drill: The attack passes the ball around the 12 M.  On the coach’s whistle, whichever defender has the ball is to turn and run to the furthest cone (or whichever is the designated cone) - this leaves a hole for an attacker. The attacker is to try to take the opening while adjacent defenders are to crash hard. The attacker who ran to the cone is to keep their head up and see where they need to fill in / who the open player is - and bump to make it man to man again.

Equipment Needed:  Even amount of attackers and defenders and two cones

Skills Emphasized:  Defensive crash and recovery - finding the open attacker.  Attack reacting to the given hole in defense.

Coaching Points of Emphasis: Change up where the cones are or which cone the defender runs to.

Variation*: Have the defender run to the closest cone and re-approach their attacker who is challenging.  Work on approaching at an angle without getting shooting space.
