Color Goalie Shots

Color Goalie Shots

An instant goalie classic.

This Drill Highlights:

  • Goalie Skills

    • Tracking the Ball

    • Turning from X up toward the 8M

    • Communication

    • Proper Saving Etiquette

Description:

Start with your goalie in the net.  Place on feeder at X with a pile of different color balls and two shooters at the top of the 8M.  Keep in mind, you can draw on white balls or wrap colored rubber bands around them (this is more difficult but an okay solution if you don’t have multi-colored balls).  The player at X will feed different balls to the shooters and the goalies job is to track each ball and call out the color as she makes the save.

Equipment:

Different Color Balls, a Goalie, a Net, 3 Shooters

Highlighted Skills:

The goalie will work on tracking the ball, watching the ball go into her stick and quickly turning from X up-field to find the ball.

Key Coaching Points:

The goalie should be focused on turning from X and finding the ball quickly and getting into position.  She should be focused on the ball and not the stick or player. Make sure the goalie watches the ball go into her stick.
