Keep Away in the Draw Circle

Keep Away in the Draw Circle

Fast paced competitive stick work drill.

This Drill Highlights:

  • Stick work

  • Teamwork - working together to keep possession

  • Importance of off ball play

Description:

Set up: Break the team up into 3 different teams. 5 players from Team 1 and Team 2 start inside the draw circle.  All Team 3 players and the remaining players from Team 1 and 2 are spread out around the outside of the draw circle.

How to Play: A coach tosses a ball into the draw circle.  If Team 1 gets possession, Team 2 is on defense/ride/press.  Team 3 and remaining players around the circle are engaged and can legally/safely play through checks (while remaining outside the circle) if a player with the ball gets too close to the line. Team 1 tries to hold possession while passing throughout the inside of the draw circle. If the ball goes out of bounds, is knocked down, checked and is recovered by Team 2, possession switches to Team 2.  Team 1 hustles to spread out and around the draw circle and 5 players from Team 3 hustle to defend inside the circle.  Balls are spread around the outside of the draw circle to keep things moving quickly.  Count each successful pass and the Team with the most points at the end WINS!

Important to note: When a Team is not inside the circle ensure they are communicating with the next players who will enter to defend (a lot of teams will have more than 5 players). Players can do this verbally, by holding up their sticks, etc.
