Pentagon Drill 3

Zone Defense Drill: Teaching rover position and working with backside players

Description of Drill: 6 defensive players and 6 offensive players. 6 cones on the 8 to designate zones for the offense and the help defense see slides. Cones go on each elbow, on each side of the crease and GLE, and on each second hash. The 5 offensive players will pass around the outside and drive on the zone. They can now leave the designated zones and can cut (but can’t cross the middle line of 8: need to stay on their side) Can overload zones!! 1 Attacker will stay in the middle of the 8 but can change with outside players. 5 Defense shell players.

Equipment Needed:  8-meter, goal, ball, cones

Skills Emphasized:  Stick side on the middle players, hedging and snapping back, and communication!

Coaching Points of Emphasis: The shell players need to pass off cutters and help the rover determine the biggest threat. Think, the rover gets the player who stays and the shell gets the cutters
