Description:
The goalie stands inside of the goal to the off-stick side pipe. A coach shoots a medium speed shot to the opposite high corner. The goalie starts with her head turned. The shooter says “shot” before she shoots, triggering the goalie to turn her head to find the shot and explode to opposite pipe to make the save.
This drill should be done on both sides of the cage.
Equipment:
Soft balls or regular lacrosse balls, Cage.
Highlighted Skills:
Stance, explosiveness, focus, ball tracking, saves across the cage
Key Coaching Points:
Goalie must focus on engaged hamstrings and calves and be ready to explode when the shot goes off.
Her weight is on the inside of her feet
Focus on absorbing the ball, not attacking it.
Focus on full body extension and the large step across the cage.
